Efecto del entrenamiento físico sobre la capacidad cognitiva del adulto mayor

Resumen:
Objetivo: el propósito de este estudio es determinar las características del ejercicio físico que intervienen en la prevención del deterioro cognitivo leve (DCL) en el adulto mayor. Diseño: Revisión sistemática utilizando como base de datos Pubmed y Cochrane, con las palabras clave: elderly, mild cognitive y exercise. Selección de artículos: se incluyeron aquellos estudios publicados en los últimos 5 años (2016-2020), en idioma inglés y español que únicamente evaluaron el efecto del ejercicio físico sobre el DCL, ensayos clínicos aleatorizados controlados, estudios longitudinales, que incluyeran en el título los descriptores: elderly, mild cognitive y exercise, en hombres y mujeres, en población saludable o con enfermedades crónicas, adultos mayores de 50 años. Se excluyeron aquellos estudios cuya metodología no fue explícita, no describieron la población de estudio y no expresaron con claridad el programa, con entrenamiento combinado (ejercicio físico y cognitivo), no realizados en humanos, registrados exclusivamente como protocolos de investigación, con intervención alimenticia y aquellos en un idioma diferente al español o inglés. Para la extracción de datos se utilizó la escala de calidad PRISMA para la lectura de los estudios. Resultados: se identificaron 203 artículos de los cuales solo 14 se incluyeron en la revisión. Conclusiones: el ejercicio físico aeróbico de intensidad leve a moderada implementado de 2-3 veces por semana con una duración de 60 minutos por sesión tiene efectos positivos en la prevención del DCL en adultos mayores.
